1) Be active and exercise

2) Drink plenty of water

3) Limit your carbohydrates 

High carbohydrates intake can be the reason for a spike in blood sugar levels. However, carbs are a very important part of the diet. A person having high sugar levels should have a diet in which carbohydrates do not contribute more than 45% of the calories, with the remainder coming from proteins (35%) and fat (20%)

4) Consume high-fibre 

People with high blood sugar levels should consume carbs enriched with high fibres such as fruits and vegetables. For example, Oranges, berries, broccoli are rich in fibre and help in lowering blood sugar. 

5) Avoid foods with a high GI(glycemic index) 

The Glycemic index ranks the food on its ability to affect blood sugar levels. For example, white bread, white rice, potatoes, chips, cakes, cookies, sweet dairy products have a high glycemic index and flood your digestive system with sugar immediately. Thus, those who already have high blood sugar issues should avoid them and consume low GI foods such as non-starchy vegetables, milk, oats, whole grains etc.

6) Have a good sleep 

Not sleeping sufficiently can be the reason for the spike in blood sugar levels. Insufficient sleep might increase cortisol levels in the body that inhibit insulin working and insulin resistance. Also, the other vital functions of the body are disturbed when they don’t get enough rest. 

7) Manage stress 

Stress has a big impact on many health conditions including high blood sugar levels. Stress increases the cortisol hormone which is not good for the body. Modifying routine for exercise, meditation, good diet and good thoughts stress can be managed. Though it’s a progressive process and needs time, once achieved can save people from many health issues. 

8) Monitor blood sugar levels 

Usually, the symptoms of high blood sugar don’t appear until it goes beyond 200 mg/dL. Thus, if a person is diabetic, he should monitor his blood sugar levels regularly. It will make them alert of their sugar levels and the condition won’t go worse. 

Many diabetic people use glucose monitors in their homes. How frequently the person needs to check the sugar levels varies from person to person.
